These homemade brownies have a perfect crackly top and are moist and fudgy. Super easy to make, no mixers or melting of chocolate is needed. One bowl, ten minutes to whip up the batter and 25 minutes of baking to enjoy these easy homemade brownies.
When it comes to baking I am always looking for simple recipes which can be made in a jiffy that everyone will rave about. These brownies totally fall in that category- moist and fudgy. It’s a one bowl recipe where the batter comes together in less than ten minutes. These brownies are delicious, easy and highly addictive.
These easy homemade brownies
- are moist and fudgy
- Just need one bowl for the batter and no mixer needed
- you need basic pantry ingredients
- irresistible and chocolaty
How to make Brownies (with step by steppics)
Step 1 – In large bowl add half cup of butter pieces and melt ( do not boil). You can also melt the butter in a sauce pan. Let the butter cool slightly and then add a cup of sugar.
Step 2- Whisk the butter and sugar for thirty seconds.
Step 3- Add the room temperature eggs and vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture.
Step 4 – Using a whisk mix the eggs and vanilla extract until well blended.
Step 5 – Add the all purpose flour, coco powder, salt and baking powder to the egg mixture.
Step 6 – Mix all the ingredients until well combined. Add walnuts or any nuts of your choice and fold in the nuts in the batter. I did not add any nuts.
Step 7- Spray a 8 by 8 baking pan with oil. To easily remove the brownies I lined the pan with a parchment paper and sprayed oil and dusted with some coco powder. Transfer the batter to the pan and bake at 350 F or 175 C for 25 minutes.
Step 8 – Let the brownies cool completely before cutting into squares. Store in a air tight container at room temperature or in the fridge for long shelf life.

- Butter- ½ cup, melted and cooled (115 gms) ( you can also use ¼ cup butter and ¼ cup oil)
- Vanilla Extract- 1 tsp
- Baking powder- ¼th tsp
- Salt- ¼th tsp
- Handful of chopped walnuts optional
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 F ( 175 degrees C). Grease a 8 inch square pan with butter or cooking spray and dust the pan with flour or coco powder. You can also line the pan with parchment paper for easy removal of the brownies.
In a large sauce pan or in a microwave melt the butter. Do not boil it. Remove from heat. let cool a bit and add the sugar. Mix well.
Add in the eggs and vanilla extract and mix until well blended.
Add flour, coco powder, salt, baking powder and walnuts (if using). Using a whisk or a spatula mix until well combined.
Pour the batter in the prepared cake pan. Bake for 25 minutes until a tooth pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and cool for at least 15 minutes before cutting.
Store the brownies in a air tight container for up to a week.
Notes

I made these today. Doubled the recipe and used 9×13 pan. I substited 1 cup white sugar for 1 cup dark brown sugar along with the white. Gave them a caramel flavor and great tasting. This is now my go to recipe for brownies.Reply
Madhavi
Yay! Love the addition of dark brown sugar. Thank you for sharing your feedback Diana!

I made these as written the first time and they were great. The second time I threw in 2 Tbs of espresso and a handful of chopped 70% chocolate. These were more fudgy than cake like. They disappeared fast! Thanks for sharing a simple one bowl recipe!Reply
Madhavi
Thanks Maggie…. the addition of espresso sounds so yum!

This is my forever go to brownie recipe. It’s so simple and they’re so perfect. I like to bake them in a big if a bigger pan so they are a bit thinner…add chocolate chips, then refrigerate before cutting them. They end up so fudgy!Reply

Thanks Renu. Yes you can double the recipe, many readers in Pinterest have shared that they doubled the recipe and it works great. You may have to use slightly bigger pan.
Or You can divide the dough and make it in two pans.

This isn’t the best brownie recipe I have made, but the whole family enjoyed them – it is quite good, economical, and very easy with no need to melt chocolate. I used 1/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup canola oil, and mixed it all up in a 1 quart glass measuring cup.
Next time I might try to make them a little denser/more chocolatey by using less baking powder, replacing one of the eggs with 1/4 cup yogurt, or using slightly more cocoa.Reply

Hi Madhu, Did you not use Baking soda at all ? or was it part of your all purpose flour?
Reply
Madhu
This brownie recipe doesn’t have any baking soda in it.
Hope you give it a try!Reply

Can i use olive oil instead of butter?
Reply
Madhavi
Sorry…. olive oil will not work. It will be too overpowering. You can use any other neutral oil like vegetable oil or canola oil. I sometimes use half butter and half oil.
